Rangpur express was broken. Eight bogies derailed and two catch fire


20 people were injured, no casualties were reported



Total 8 bogies derailed among which two caught fire in ullapara siragonj.
The accident occurred just after the Rangpur-bound train, coming from Dhaka, left the platform of the Ullapara rail station around 1:30pm Thursday, assistant Station Master of Ullapara rail station Rafiqul Islam told Dhaka Tribune
After receiving the clearance from the lineman, the train left for Rangpur on the Sirajganj-Ishwardi track. However, as soon as it left Ullapara rail station, the locomotive suddenly lifted from the ground, causing eight bogies to derail," Rafiqul said.


Although nearly 20 people were injured, no one has died, the assistant station master added. 
After hearing of the incident, police, fire service and medics rushed to the spot to help in the rescue operation.

Station officer of Ullapara Fire Service Nazir Hossain and field officer of Ullapara Health Complex Golam Kibria both confirmed that 20 people were injured in the accident. 


The injured are receiving treatment in local hospitals.

Divisional Manager of West Bengal Railway  Mizanur Rahman said: "A relief train from Pakshi was sent to Ullapara."

A probe committee, consisting of five members under Divisional Traffic Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, has been created to investigate, and then submit a report upon the incident.

The report must be submitted within three working days, Mizanur Rahman said. "If the lineman was at fault for providing clearance, steps will be taken against him."
